Fridley, MN - The MLC men picked up their first win of the 2023 tennis season with a
7-2 win over the Crown Polars. The Knights were 2-1 in doubles matches, winning two of the matches by a score of 8-1 and 8-2.
The individual performances from MLC's singles players proved to be the difference as
Johannes Bourman (6-4, 6-3),
Josiah Koelpin (6-3, 6-1),
Elijah Schulz (6-1, 6-1),
Matthew Koelpin (6-2, 6-2),
Brian Friesenegger (6-1, 6-3) each won in straight sets. The Knights also received a great effort from number one singles player,
Josiah Wordell who came up just short in his matches (4-6, 4-6).
When asked about his team's performance, head coach
Paul Koelpin said, " I was pleased for the players that they were able to raise their level despite the practice challenges we've experienced. It was good to see some success. They represented themselves well."
MLC (1-2) will look to pick up their second win on the road at UW-Superior on Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m.
