Superior, WI - The MLC women's tennis team lost its Sunday afternoon match to UW-Superior 9-0. The Knights previously swept the Crown Polars on Tuesday, March 21 for their first win of the season, but found themselves up against some stiff competiiton in the Yellowjackets.
The Yellowjackets took all three doubles matches over MLC, but
Josie Bieberitz and
Charis Glende put up a battle in their number two match, falling 5-8 to the UW-Superior.
In singles play, Bieberitz also hung in tough in her number-two singles match by taking home the first set. The junior would have an opportunity to take the match after Courtney Brandt won the second set, but would lose on a tiebreaker in the final set (6-3, 2-6, 0-1). The other impressive performance came from
Abigail Schewe in her number-five singles match. Schewe played the longest match of the day and lost her first set in a 3-7 tiebreaker, before eventually losing (6-7, 4-6) to Haley Quick.
MLC (1-4, 1-1) will have a quick turnaround and will face off against the Hamline Pipers for an afternoon match on Tuesday, March 28.
