St. Paul, MN - The MLC men's tennis team was defeated
8-1 on Tuesday afternoon to the Hamline Pipers. Hamline controlled the match in all areas, starting with a 3-0 lead in the doubles matches.
The Knights would get a number-six singles victory from
Brian Friesenegger. The junior won his match (6-2, 2-6, 1-0), sealing the win in a tiebreaker in the final set over Tate Johanning. The rest of the singles team gave another hard-working performance and showed a lot of determination against tough competition.
Josiah Wordell and
Johannes Bourman both lost their matches (1-6, 3-6), but proved that they could battle against the top of the Pipers personnel.
With the loss, MLC goes to (1-4) on the year and will play Northwestern on Sunday, April 2, at the Swanson Tennis Center on the campus of Gustavus. The match will be considered a "home" contest and cannot be played on the MLC tennis courts due to the weather.
