Mankato, MN - The MLC women's tennis team snapped their seven game losing streak with a
5-4 win over Bethany on Tuesday afternoon.
The Knights found themselves in an early deficit, dropping two out of the the three doubles matches. The only win came from the duo of
Abigail Schewe and
Katie Kutz in No. 3 doubles, earning them their second doubles victory of the season.
After
McKenzey Crowley (4-6, 6-2, 3-6) and
Josephine Bieberitz (1-6, 1-6) lost the first two singles, it had looked as if Bethany was on their way towards the win over MLC. However, the remaining four matches all went in favor of the Knights, as they edged out the Vikings 5-4.
Sarah Hoffe,
Charis Glende, and Schewe won their matches rather handily in two sets, while
Rachel Schoeneck gutted out a win in the final set tiebreaker, beating her No. 6 opponent, 2-6,6-2, 7-5.
The win on Tuesday gives MLC a 6-4 record against Bethany in their last meetings and the 5-4 result was the smallest margin of victory between the schools.
MLC now goes (2-10, 2-4) on the season and the Knights were able to respond to their April 4 loss to Bethany with a nice team effort that resulted in a win.
Up next for MLC women's tennis is a match against Crown. The match will start at 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 and it will be played in Owatonna.
