New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College baseball season came to a conclusion following a
15-5 loss to Northwestern on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Knights were swept by the Eagles in their final home stand, but had another solid performance from
Mason Cox, who hit another homerun to left field in the third inning.
However, MLC would have a hard time overcoming the early 6-1 deficit and the Eagles' bats were out swinging, as they launched three home runs of their own to separate from the Knights. Despite the double-digit win for Northwestern, the Eagles managed just 8 hits, compared to 5 hits for MLC. The Eagles would manufacture baserunners by drawing seven walks and getting hit by pitches five separate occasions.
Caleb Carlovsky would get the nod following his first career win on Tuesday against Northland. The sophomore would not get the same result though in this one, surrendering six runs (five earned) in 1.2 innings.
Cox had a stellar game to end his junior season, going 3-4 at the plate with four RBI and the homerun. The junior even went in to record the final three outs, striking out two Northwestern batters. On the year, Cox batted .412 with four homers and 23 RBI.
Spencer Lilienthal and
Carter Seltz would also join Cox with above .300 batting averages. In 30 games for Lilienthal, the junior batted .307 and led the team with 29 runs scored. Seltz finished second on the team in batting average (.397) and hits (34).
MLC finished the season with an overall record of 5-25, while going 1-20 in UMAC play. The five wins surpasses the Knights three wins from last year and the team showed signs of improvement throughout the season when at the plate.
