New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College volleyball team took on Buena Vista on Tuesday evening without junior hitter in
Grace Kieselhorst, who leads the Knights in several statistical categories. Without Kieselhorst, MLC had moments that indicated that they could pull off the win over the Beavers, but Buena Vista ultimately rallied in all three sets for the 3-0 win over the Knights.
Despite the sweep, the three sets were highly competitive, with the Knights being tied late into them and even saw MLC take the lead at certain points. However, the Beavers would capitalize on the shorthanded Knights and found the necessary points needed late.
MLC did find bright spots from several freshmen on the court, with
Ella Walz and
Molly Fitzsimmons taking over more responsibilities as setters. Walz led the team in assists, recording 15, while Fitzsimmons was right behind her with eleven.
Senior
Paige Biesterfeld also played one of her better games of the season, being a force at the net with four blocks. In addition to her defense, the right side hitter would also have six kills on the night.
The Knights will look to pick up their third win of the season when they head to La Crosse for a three-game tournament. Their first match will be against Luther on Friday, September 15, at 5 p.m.
