Ashland, WI - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team headed out to Northland for their second conference game of the season. The men are coming off of a close UMAC home opener in which they lost 2-1 to Morris on Wednesday. The Knights were hoping to build off of the previous game, but were ultimately shutout to the Lumberjacks on Saturday and lost
6-0.
Early on in the first period,
Grant Gawrisch was issued a yellow card that put Northland into a great position to strike first. The Lumberjacks did just that shortly after and forward, Harrison Tibbetts found the back of the net for his first of five goals in the game. The forward would score his second goal at the 36:16 mark to put Northland up 2-0 at intermission.
To begin the second period, Tibbetts picked up where he left off and hit two goals within six minutes of each other and the Lumberjacks found themselves up 4-0.
From there, MLC would do their best to stage a comeback, but the deficit was too much for them to overcome and Northland would march forward for the conference win.
As a team, Northland finished the game with 28 shots on goal, keeping goalie,
Zachary Pausma, busy all day long.
The MLC attack had six shots on goal on their side and hope to add on that number in their next meeting against rival Bethany on Tuesday, September 19. The game will be played at 2 p.m. as the Knights search for their third win of the year.
