New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team played another shorthanded game on Tuesday afternoon against Bethany. MLC was missing a handful of key players including
Hannah Schroeder, Lilianne Zimpelmann, and
Kaitlin Butler. Despite the lack of depth for the Knights on Tuesday, the team still gave a solid effort, but was unable to get much going offensively and lost to the Vikings
1-0.
Goalkeeper
Rebekah Schroeder did return for MLC though and provided a spark for the Knights. The freshman stayed busy throughout the game, as the Vikings attack stayed active on MLC's side. Bethany had 18 shots on goal as a team, with Schroeder recording 17 saves for the Knights.
The only goal of the game came fairly early on when Asia Jota launched a deep shot through the back of the net for Bethany with under 10 minutes played in the first period.
The Knights would try to match that goal for the next 80 minutes of play, but managed just three shots on goal and struggled to get much ball movement going.
The two teams played a clean game, as there was just one yellow card issued late in the second period to Bethany's Madison Sax.
MLC will now look to regroup and hopes to get back those missing players for their next contest against Crown on Saturday, September 23. The game will be played at 4:30 p.m. on the MLC Soccer Field.
