MLC Falls 4-1 to Northwestern

St. Paul, MN - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team fell to the Northwestern Eagles on Wednesday night by a final score of 4-1.

The Knights (2-8) were coming off a game in which they committed five yellow cards and two red cards in a loss to Crown on Monday. This time around, MLC cracked down on the penalties, but that would not be enough, as the offense from the Eagles got hot from the get go and found the back of the net in the 16th minute on a Joey McMillin goal.

The Eagles also gained a solid game from defenseman Tim DeLoye, who fired off eight shots (seven on goal) and scored two goals, including a tiebreaker score just before halftime.

Johannes Bourman scored his first goal of the season on an assist from Josiah Wordell at the 33rd minute of the first period. Besides the Bourman goal, the Knights would once again struggle to get much activity near the net and had just one other shot on goal from Wordell.

Zachary Pausma got the nod at goalkeeper again for MLC and gave up three goals on the day, but did record 14 saves.

The Knights return to the field in a road contest at UW-Superior on Saturday, September 30, at 2 p.m.
