New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College volleyball team continued its dominance against the Crown Polars with the
3-1 win (21-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-21) on Friday evening.
With the win, MLC is now 41-1 all-time in their series with Crown, including an eight-game win streak and 21 consecutive home wins against the Polars.
Crown entered the match with some motivation to snap the losing skid to the Knights and took the first set due to the 10 errors committed by MLC early on. The Knights were able to regroup though and snatched back the momentum with a tight 28-26 victory in the second set, which included a kill from
Lauren Paulsen after both teams rattled off a long volley back and forth.
MLC was able to put away the Polars from there as they claimed sets three and four. As a team, MLC recorded 56 kills in the game, which is their second highest output of kills on the season (60 against Mount Mary).
Ella Walz had a standout performance at the setter position and had a career-high in assists (27), while
Grace Kieselhorst put together 21 assists. MLC got contributions from a variety of players with kills, as Paulsen led with 11, while
Megan Kieselhorst and
Paige Biesterfeld each finished with nine.
MLC now goes to (4-11, 2-1) on the season and will have a quick turnaround for their next conference match when they host Minnesota Morris on Parents' Day on Saturday, September 30. The Knights will be search for their third conference victory, with the first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
