New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College volleyball team had a quick turnaround from their conference win over Crown last night when they hosted Minnesota Morris for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday morning. The game would begin by honoring the parents of all players on the team for Parents' Day and MLC had hoped for a win to cap off the festivities, but the Cougars would have other plans, sweeping MLC
3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-16).
The Cougars got got momentum going with 14 kills in the opening set to make their mark on the match.
In the second set, MLC would cut their seven-point deficit down to just two after an
Ella Walz service ace, but Minnesota Morris denied off a possible comeback with a Maggie Jones kill.
The Knights would have more errors (10) than kills (9) in the third set, as the Cougars capitalized on the MLC mistakes for the third set sweep (25-16).
Despite the loss,
Grace Kieselhorst led the way in kills, racking up eight, while
Lauren Paulsen was right behind her with seven. Kieselhorst also recorded a team-high 13 assists and Walz had 10 at the setter position.
MLC (4-12, 2-2) will now shift their focus to the Northland Lumberjills for a home match on October 6. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
