Women's Soccer Loses Close Game on the Road to Dakota Wesleyan

Mitchell, SD - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team faced off against an NAIA opponent in Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, Sept. 6, on the road. The Knights played their best defensive game of the young season, but were unable to get much offense going as the Tigers defeated MLC 2-1.

The Tigers began the first period with multiple shots towards the goal, coming up short, but eventually found the back of the net at the 22:42 mark when Annika Enevoldsen scored to make it 1-0. Following the first goal for Dakota Wesleyan, the Tigers scored their second goal from Deandrea Johnson at the 27:10 mark.

The score would remain 2-0 heading into the second period and stayed that way until the 71:16 mark of the game when Kaitlin Butler scored the first goal of the season for MLC. The senior put the Knights in the scoring column and they had another chance to tie the game shortly after when Madeline Walz took a shot towards the goal. However, the shot was blocked and the Knights ran out of chances to tie up the Tigers ending in the loss.

Despite the loss, MLC had nine shots on goal and improved their quality of shots in the game. Freshman Rebekah Schroeder had another solid game at the goalkeeper position, recording 18 saves, with just the two goals allowed.

MLC now goes to 0-3 on the season and plays Buena Vista for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 9, in search of their first win. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the MLC soccer field.
