Watertown, WI - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team played in front of a packed gymnasium in front of numerous alumni, parents, and current Prep students/faculty in their
89-62 victory over Maranatha Baptist on Monday night.
Luther Prep alum,
Thomas Balge, continued his stellar play of late with a career-high 32 points in the win. The sophomore had his way getting to the basket going 12-of-16 from the floor and added six boards and three steals.
Similar to the women, the men started off with a big lead from the opening tip with MLC going up 13-2. However, the Sabercats pushed back with some resistance and made it 19-14 with 10:10 in the first half after a pair of Caleb Moultrie (26 points) free throws.
MLC then found their stroke from the outside and rattled off five 3-pointers to walk into the break up 48-33.
The first nine minutes of the second half saw the Knights start to ramp things up on both ends of the court and MLC would go on a 17-3 run to really break things open, leading the Sabercats 65-36.
MLC dominated in the paint, outscoring Maranatha Baptist 52-24 in that area and the Knights did it with intentional passing and good spacing in their offensive sets.
Luke Fix (Luther Prep alum) contributed with 10 points and nice hustle plays all game long, while the rest of the team added a well-balanced attack offensively.
MLC (3-13, 2-5) hopes to replicate its performance again tomorrow night down the road in Watertown at Maranatha Baptist. Both teams face off at 6 p.m. following the women's game.
