Watertown, WI - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team topped the century mark in its 105-65 win over Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday evening.
MLC grabbed its biggest lead of the first half (32-13) at the 9:24 mark after a
Micah Kieselhorst 3-pointer, but the Sabercats would cut it to eight points (41-33) with just under four minutes remaining.
From there, the Knights took control in the final minutes of the first half and ended with a 14-6 run to go into halftime up 55-39.Â
For a second straight game against the Sabercats, MLC would kick it into extra gear and forced numerous turnovers to extend their lead to 72-49 after a
Thomas Balge layup in transition.Â
The Knights were advantageous in that area all evening and outscored Maranatha 42-11 in points off turnovers.
Overall, MLC had its best game of the season and had a season high in points scored (105), field goals made (38), assists (19), and steals (17). Six players finished in double figures for the Knights, as sophomores
Ethan Kjenstad and Balge paced the team with 17 points apiece, while
Trey Lauber and Kieselhorst notched 15 points from the forward position.
With the win, MLC goes to 4-13 overall and has won three of its last four contests. The Knights will have a makeup game against Spurgeon College on Thursday, January 25, that was originally planned for January 10. The two teams will play in the LSC gymnasium, with a slated start time of 7 p.m.
