Winona, MN - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team began the 2024 campaign on Saturday following a season in which they finished fourth in the UMAC North with a 4-6 conference record.
The Knights were swept
9-0 by the Saint Mary's on Saturday and the Cardinals opened things up with a 3-0 lead after doubles competition. The No. 2Â doubles match that featured
Josiah Koelpin and
Elijah Schulz was the closest result for the MLC men, as the pair fell 2-8 to Caden Rodning and Matt Besek.
Johannes Bourman dropped his No. 1 singles match in straight sets, but found some traction in the second set that threatened a possible comeback, going down to Evan Huemoller 1-6, 4-6.
Schulz had a similar outcome in his No. 5 match, falling to Philip Apel 1-6, 4-6.
MLC will have a few weeks off until their next match on the court when they travel to Appleton to face Lawrence University. The match will start at 2 p.m on Friday, February 17.
