Ashland, WI—The Martin Luther College men's soccer team tied Northland College on Saturday in a 1-1 draw on the road. Both teams played in a defensive battle, but the Lumberjacks struck first right at the beginning of the second period when Chris Gomez scored on a pass from Lebron Owusu.
The Knights answered with their own goal before the final buzzer rang, as
Matthew Koelpin found the back of the net with only 26 seconds remaining in the contest. With the goal, MLC preserved the tie with 22 shots (10 on target), while Northland was near the same amount with 21 shots (10 on goal).
The game was evenly matched and both goalkeepers recorded nine saves (
Nicholas Russ and Rodrigo Chavez).
MLC goes to 2-10-2 overall, 1-6-1 UMAC, and will be up against Bethany Lutheran College on Wednesday, October 16, at 1 p.m. in New Ulm.
