St. Paul, MN—The Martin Luther College women's basketball team was back in action on the hardwood after being off for a couple of weeks. Their last regular season game resulted in a 56-50 victory over Augsburg. The Knights took on the Hamline Pipers on New Year's Eve Day and looked for another win against a MIAC school, but they came up short in a
74-51 loss.
Hamline led 35-17 at halftime and played well, especially on defense. MLC got more offensive in the third quarter, but the Pipers shot 71 percent from the field to extend their lead even further.
The Pipers forced 24 turnovers and scored 23 points off of them and gained a variety of contributions from their squad, resulting in 27 bench points.
MLC was led in scoring by
Mya Morris, who finished with 15 points and three 3-pointers. Junior
Lydia Feidt tallied 10 points and shot 4-of-5 from the field in only 16 minutes on the court.
Meanwhile, the Knights fought hard still on the glass, with
Emma Dorn grabbing eight rebounds to lead the team as
Grace Kieselhorst and
Ava Stein finished with seven apiece. Stein also made it difficult for Hamline down low, blocking a total of three shots.
MLC goes to 6-3 overall and will start the new year tomorrow with another nonconference contest at St. Olaf College. That game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tipoff in Northfield, MN.
