Northwestern (Iowa) Hands MLC the Loss on Saturday

Owatonna, MN - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team returned to the court on Saturday in a neutral site match against an NAIA school in Northwestern (Iowa).

The Raiders defeated MLC 9-0 and did so by taking the three doubles matches. The No. 2 doubles match presented more of a challenge for Northwestern (Iowa), as the duo of Britney Prahl and Katie Schoeneck forced a 5-8 decision.

Olya Furmanova (No. 2 singles) and Julia Anderson (No. 3 singles) swept Glende and Schewe, but Rachel Schoeneck put up a great effort in the No. 4 singles match (4-6, 2-6).

Katie Schoeneck fell in her No. 5 match (2-6, 2-6), while Katie Kutz went down in the No. 6 match (3-6, 4-6).

"They were a very good team-- especially in the 1-3 singles. I was pleased with the way the women adjusted to the competition level. We gave them some competitive matches today," said Head Coach Paul Koelpin about his team.

The MLC women are now 0-2 overall this season and will have a couple of weeks off until their next match against St. Catherine. That contest will be played up in St. Paul at 4:30 p.m.
