Knights Dominate Northland on Senior Day

New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team capped off its 2023-24 season Saturday afternoon with a dominating 77-40 victory over Northland.

The Lumberjills took a brief lead early in the game (2-1), but that'd be their only lead of the game, as the Knights controlled the action the rest of the way. MLC went on a 23-2 run from that point and forced Northland into multiple turnovers to build up their big lead.

MLC scored 32 points off of Northland turnovers, but also found success in the paint, outscoring the Lumberjills 44-10 inside the key. For the game, the Knights shot 40.8 percent (31-for-76).

Jordyn Heckendorf finished her MLC career with 21 points and four assists. The senior leaves the Knights' women's basketball program in fifth-place all-time in career points scored (960) and fourth all-time in career assists (260).

Joining Heckendorf in the senior day festivities was Emma Nelson, who notched her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds. The forward currently sits in sixth in MLC career rebounds with 526 boards after today's game. Nelson will have a chance to continue to climb up the records list next season, as she will take advantage of her fifth year of eligibility.

The Knights just missed a shot to play in the UMAC Postseason Tournament, but can still hold their heads up high after a strong finish to the season, winning seven of their last nine games. MLC went 12-13 overall and 7-7 in the UMAC this season, which was the program's most wins since the 2015-16 year when they won 13 games.
