Men's Tennis Notches First Win of the Season at Ripon

Ripon, WI - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team bounced back from their loss to Lawrence yesterday, by winning their first match of the season on the road to Ripon 6-3 on Sunday.

Ripon would take the No. 1 doubles match decisively, but Josiah Koelpin and Elijah Schulz got the Knights on the board with an 8-5 win in No. 2 doubles. MLC then took the third doubles match due to the performance of Eli Stern and Brian Friesenegger 8-7. The duo sealed their match with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker.

In the singles competition, Josiah Wordell recovered from an opening set loss by taking the second and third set over his opponent to snag the No. 3 singles victory. Wordell defeated Corey Mooney in the match (2-6, 6-3, 1-0) and edged him out in the tiebreaker 10-5.

Matthew Koelpin would also have a solid day on the court and played consistent tennis to defeat Jack Ives (6-3, 6-3) in the No. 4 match.

MLC now improves to 1-2 in the young season and has over a month off before their next time in action. The Knights will face Crown in Owatonna, MN on March 23, at 12:30 p.m.
