Storm Lake, Iowa - The MLC men's soccer team began its 2024 season on the road against Buena Vista University. The two teams met up in New Ulm last season in early September with the Knights coming out on top 2-1. MLC gave another hard effort on Friday night, but ultimately came up short, falling 3-0.

The Beavers scored their first goal at the 24:35 mark of the first period by Ben Jackson and then connected on their other two goals later in the second period. Buena Vista outshot MLC 16-3 with a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. 

Freshman goalkeeper Nicholas Russ allowed the three goals scored, but also recorded nine saves in his first collegiate start. Meanwhile, MLC had 22 players with minutes on the field, as they tried to rotate fresh personnel throughout the game.

Next up for MLC (0-1) is thri first home game of the season on Wednesday, September 4. There, the men's soccer team will host Dakota Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
