New Ulm, MN - The MLC men's soccer team played their home opener on Wednesday afternoon against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers, but fell to the NAIA opponent by a final score of
4-0.
MLC kept the game within reach for 80 minutes of action and were only down 1--0, until Colton Douglas connected on his second goal of the afternoon at the 80th minute. His teammates then added two more goals in the next five minutes to put the contest away.
Freshman goalkeeper
Nicholas Russ had a busy day as the Tigers rattled off 26 shots (12 shots on goal), but Russ was able to eight saves still in his second career start. The MLC defense led by
Jed Mittelstadt,
Isaac Boettcher, and
Stephen Wietzke also provided some support on the defensive end to help limit the damage.
