Watertown, WI - The Martin Luther College men's soccer match with Maranatha Baptist ended in a
2-2 tie on Saturday afternoon.
The Sabercats took a 1-0 lead after Robert Lemon found the back of the net at the 20:11 mark in the first period.
Owen Heiman connected on his first goal of the season (47:10) to begin the second period and both schools were evened up at 1-1.
About six minutes later, MLC added another goal off of a
Johannes Bourman score to make it 2-1. From there, MLC had looked poised to secure their first win, but Maranatha tied things up 2-2 with just 15 minutes remaining in action.
MLC got off 25 shots (15 shots on goal) which were season-highs for the Knights. Bourman and Heiman each led MLC with four shots on goal in addition to their goals, while
Matthew Koelpin had two shots on goal.
Nicholas Russ also recorded eight saves and had a season-low in goals allowed (2).
Up next for the Knights (0-2-1) is a Sunday afternoon meeting with Wisconsin Lutheran in Milwaukee. The game will be played at 2:30 p.m.
