Becker, MN - The Martin Luther College golf team played at the UMAC Preview on Thursday at Pebble Creek golf course. As a team, the MLC men took
sixth out of eight UMAC schools in the competition with a combined score of 342 strokes. Meanwhile, the women came in
fourth (418 strokes) out of eight schools at the preview.
Benjamin Pearson led all MLC golfers with a 4th overall finish, shooting a final score of 3 over par (75 strokes) that came up just short of the top score of 73 completed by Nate Burke of UW-Superior. Burke won the event after winning the playoff hole, beating out a couple of other golfers who finished the day with a score of 73.
The next-lowest scores came via
John Martin and
Aidan Berg, who finished with a score of 87 apiece that put them in T-41st overall. The MLC men had one additional golfer in the top 45 as
Noah Walta scored an 89 (T-44th).
More freshmen golfers appeared at the top for the women's side as
Myah Loberger and
Brooke Parkhurst ended their day of golf at 18th overall, shooting scores of 99 strokes. The MLC women also had two other golfers secure spots within the top 30 as
Chloe Berg shot a 105 (24th) and
Olivia Klabunde finished with a score of 115 (30th)
The MLC golf team will head into a duel with Bethany on Tuesday, September 17. The women will compete for the Saxony Cup and the men will play for the Wittenberg Cup. Tee time for the match is at 10 a.m. in Waseca at the Waseca Lakeside Club.
