Volleyball Narrowly Beaten by Saint Mary's in La Crosse

La Crosse, WI - The Martin Luther College volleyball team played in a tightly contested match with Saint Mary's (MN) to conclude their time at the UW-La Crosse Invitational on Saturday morning. The match went to five sets, but Saint Mary's edged out the Knights 15-13 in the final set to take it 3-2.

MLC got off to a strong start after taking the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23, racking up a total of 28 combined kills. The Cardinals then extended the match and answered back wit a 25-19 victory in the third set due to a .367 hitting percentage. Neither team was extremely efficient in the fourth set, but Saint Mary's found a way to even up the match with a 25-22 decision.

The Cardinals completed the comeback with nine kills and just one error as they defeated MLC in the final set. Brenna Bruchert finished with 19 kills to lead both squads, while her teammate Kali Olson recorded 15.

Grace Kieselhorst paced the Knights with 17 kills and Lydia Feidt was second on the team with 13. Setter Ella Walz divvied up 28 assists and also led MLC in aces with four in the match. Meanwhile, Anna Kieselhorst recorded 25 digs as Lauren Paulsen finished with 14.

The Knights (3-11, 0-1) will now set their sights on a road conference matchup against Bethany on the road. That contest will be played at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24.
