Watertown, WI - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team completed a sweep in their season series with Maranatha Baptist on Monday. The Knights previously defeated the Sabercats 98-81 in the middle of November and topped Maranatha Baptist
84-57 in today's contest.
The Knights had a season-best defensive performance in terms of points allowed (57) and received a nice effort from
Benjamin Vasold, who led the team with a career-high in points (18), 3-pointers made (4), and field goals made (7). Vasold and fellow freshman
Adam Loberger finished with three steals apiece, with Loberger totaling 17 points.
MLC took a 35-26 lead into halftime, but took control of the game in the early stages of the second half by going on a 17-6 run to make it 52-31 with 14:45 left. MLC fond success from the perimeter in the second half, shooting 8-of-16 from deep.
Thomas Balge finished with 16 points and the Knights as a team produced half of their total points from inside the paint (42).
With the win, MLC (6-10, 2-4) has now surpassed their win total from a season ago and is looking to make it three in a row when they play North Central on Wednesday, January 29. The Knights will play their third game in four days when they face the Rams at 5:30 p.m.
