New Ulm, MN - On Tuesday evening, MLC women's basketball picked up a scrappy
59-40 victory over St. Olaf College in the LSC. The Knights played hard on both ends of the court and were extremely active on the offensive glass as they accumulated 19 offensive rebounds, which was almost half of their total amount. Rebounding was big for the Knights, out-rebounding St. Olaf 43-30.
Lydia Feidt had an impressive all-around performance and almost recorded a triple-double. The senior went for 24 points, 13 rebounds, and picked up seven steals against the Oles.
Neither team shot well from the floor or beyond the arc, but despite MLC's one made 3-pointer in the third quarter, the Knights capitalized on their second-chance opportunities in the second half. The score was 23-19 St. Olaf at the break, but MLC was able to hit some of the shots that wouldn't fall in the first half.
There were several lead changes in the opening minutes of the third quarter, but then MLC strung together an 18-3 run over the span of seven minutes in the period and seized control of the game.
Wilhelmina Wenz came from all areas of the court and secured a career-best 15 rebounds from the guard position. Wenz also had a team-high five assists. Meanwhile,
Mya Morris added 12 points.
MLC now goes to 4-2 overall, with three of those wins coming against MIAC schools. The Knights will resume play after Thanksgiving Break when they head to UW-Eau Claire on Monday, December 1, at 7 p.m.
