Owatonna, MN - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team finished their weekend matches with a morning contest against Ripon College following a 4-3 loss to Crown on Friday. The Knights gave another solid effort on Saturday versus the Red Hawks but came up short
4-3 again.
Ripon gained their first point from a sweep in doubles competition, but the Knights almost took the No. 3 match with
Eli Stern and
Isaiah Scharf making it close before dropping the set in the tiebreaker.
Matthew Koelpin won his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-4 to get the Knights on the board, while Stern took his No. 3 singles contest 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 by finishing off his opponent in the tiebreaker. Meanwhile, Scharf almost added another W to the win column in No. 4 singles but lost in a close tiebreaker in the third set 6-7, 6-3, 0-1.
The third point of the day came via
Noah Koelpin in No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-3.
MLC (0-3) will have a couple of weeks before their next match on Saturday, March 1, when they go to Lawrence University for an 11 a.m. match.
