New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team lost its conference game against Bethany on Wednesday evening by a final score of
61-50.
The Knights began the game with a 17-14 lead after the first quarter, but a 3-pointer from Gianna Klarenbeek in the second quarter gave Bethany the lead 21-19 and the Vikings wouldn't trail from that point on.
The Bethany defense was ready to play as they held the Knights to 26 percent shooting from the floor and 18.5 percent from 3-point territory. Despite the shots not falling for MLC, they never backed down defensively and still made it a competitive game for all four quarters. MLC would also make things difficult for Bethany offensively, as the Viking shot just 33 percent.
MLC took care of the ball and only had 10 turnovers compared to 15 for their counterpart, but Bethany made 10 3-point field goals and they did it in a timely fashion.
Bethany was led by Klarenbeek (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Lexiss Trygg (13 points, 12 rebounds), while the Knights had four players reach double figures with
Mya Morris (12 points, 8 rebounds) and
Lydia Feidt (11 points, 6 rebounds) leading the way. Meanwhile,
Emma Dorn and
Lauren Paulsen finished with 10 points apiece.
MLC goes to 13-7 overall, 6-3 UMAC, and heads to UW-Superior on Saturday, February 8, for a 4:45 p.m. game.
