Auburndale, FL - The Martin Luther College baseball team dropped their doubleheader on Monday to Saint John's (MN) (Game 1
18-2 and Game 2
16-0) on day three of the Florida trip.
Game 1 Saint John's (MN) 18, MLC 2
Game 1 went in favor of the Johnnies as they'd belt a pair of 2-run homers in the early stages of the game to put them up 5-0. Saint John's went up 11-0 after the fifth inning and posted seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away 18-0.
However, the Knights managed to get some runs in their final time at the plate and scored their two runs off of a couple of wild pitches. MLC's two hits came via
Mark Vogel and
John Westendorf, with
Carlos Walta and freshman
Brian Baumann scoring the runs.
Game 2 Saint John's (MN) 16, MLC 0
The second contest saw more of the same from the Johnnies as they dominated all facets of the game. Eight different batters recorded an RB for Saint John's and they took control of the game after taking a 9-0 lead through three innings.
MLC gave a good go at it, but was limited to just two hits at the plate.
Alex Ritter and Westendorf were the two MLC players to get a hit off the Johnnies, while
Ethan Melso stole a base.
MLC (5-4) will turn around and get ready to finish off their trip with some momentum when they face off with Maine - Farmington in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 18, at 2:30 and 5 p.m.
