New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College softball team played its opening home series of the season against Bethany, but it would be the Vikings who'd come out on top beating the Knights
5-0 in Game 1,
15-1 in Game 2, and
23-2 in Game 3.
Game 1 Bethany 5, MLC 0
Jess Horn had two consecutive three-up-three-down innings in Friday's first contest, as the senior got off to a good start on the mound. Horn had one of her better outings of the season and struck out four.
However, Bethany put across a run in the third and fourth before adding insurance runs in the sixth and seventh frames. The top three hitters of Bethany's lineup had two hits, while the middle of MLC's lineup had one hit each.
Game 2 Bethany 15, MLC 1
On Saturday, the Vikings' bats heated up with Bethany scoring eight runs in the top of the second. Emily Doyle belted a 3-run triple to right field to cap off the big inning for the Vikings.
Bethany added seven more runs throughout the next three innings to enforce the 8-run rule and ended the second contest in five innings.
Horn got on base with a hit and scored the lone run for MLC on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth.
Game 3 Bethany 23, MLC 2
The third and final game of the series resulted in more of the same from the Bethany offense as they put up eight runs in the first two innings combined before exploding for 11 runs in the top of the third.
Brynn Weidner, Carly Nelson, and Doyle finished with three RBI each as the whole Vikings' lineup contributed in the stat column.
Chloe Berg and
Anna Busch each scored a run for MLC and
Emma Frey stole two bases during the game.
MLC (0-13) will resume conference play for another home series next weekend, starting on Friday, March 28, when the Knights host UW-Superior. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
