Waconia, MN - The MLC women's tennis team completed a season sweep over the Crown Polars this morning with a
7-0 victory.
The Knights previously defeated the Polars in a 6-1 win on Valentine's Day that counted as a nonconference match. On Friday, the match resulted in a conference win, and the Knights got it started with a sweep in doubles play.
Britney Prahl and
Abigail Schewe topped their opponents in the No. 1 game 6-2.
Josie Bieberitz and
Rachel Schoeneck won No. 2 doubles 6-3, while
Katie Kutz and
Rebekah Schroeder took their No. 3 game 6-2.
All six singles matchups went in favor of MLC, but the Polars did make most of them competitive with Prahl claiming No. 1 singles 6-3, 7-5, while Schewe won No. 2 7-5, 6-1.
Bieberitz finished off No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 7-6 victory, while Schoeneck defeated her No. 4 opponent 6-0, 6-2.
No. 5 and No. 6 singles featured a pair of battles with
Emily Gronholz taking the No. 5 game 6-2, 4-6, 6-0, as
Katie Schoeneck's outcome was decided by a third-set tiebreaker 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).
With the win, MLC improves to 7-7 overall, 3-1 UMAC, and remains in contention for the No. 2 seed in the UMAC Tournament. As of now, the Knights sit in second in the standings and will face off with the No. 3 team, Northwestern, tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. on the road.
