Tim Grundmeier Steps Away from Men's Soccer after 12 Years as Coach and Player

New Ulm, MN - After 12 combined years of being associated with the MLC men's soccer program, Tim Grundmeier will officially step down as the Co-Head Coach of the Knights. Grundmeier became the Co-Head Coach with his former high school and college teammate, Nick Schmoller, in 2022. Before that, Grundmeier served as an assistant coach under Paul Koelpin from 2017 to 2021, helping the Knights reach three conference tournament appearances in the UMAC.

Grundmeier played for the Knights from 2003 to 2006 as a center defender and was a member of MLC's conference championship team as a freshman in 2003. In his senior season, Grundmeier earned All-UMAC accolades.

"MLC soccer has been a big part of my life. I greatly enjoyed getting to coach with Paul (my former coach) and Nick (my former teammate). I'll miss working with the talented and dedicated Christian men that we have as players in the program," Grundmeier said about his time with MLC soccer.

Grundmeier is stepping down to focus on teaching and to spend more time with family. "This is the right time to step away. The team is in great hands with Nick and Tyler as coaches. There is a strong group of returning players, and I'm excited to cheer them on from the other side of the field."

Athletic Director David Biedenbender offered his gratitude to Grundmeier by saying, "We thank Tim for his many years of dedication and commitment to the MLC Knights men's soccer program as a player and a coach. We are grateful for the time and effort Tim poured into the men's soccer program, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Schmoller has taken over as the lone head coach of MLC men's soccer and is bringing on board Tyler Cardwell as an assistant coach to his coaching staff.
