La Crosse, WI - The MLC volleyball team played a pair of matches on Saturday to complete its time at the UW-La Crosse tournament. The Knights fell
3-0 to Monmouth (Illinois) and
to UW-La Crosse in the later match of the morning
3-1.
Monmouth 3, MLC 0
Neither team racked up a bunch of kills in the first set, but the Scots had a 7-1 advantage in errors, leading to their 25-13 opening set win. The Knights played hard in the second and third sets to make it a more competitive match, but both times Monmouth won the set 25-21.
Both teams were nearly even in kills with Monmouth having the 28-26 edge in that category, while each squad finished with 26 assists.
Ella Walz had 17 of MLC's 26 assists, while
Anna Kieselhorst (14) and
Ella Slangor (9) led the Knights in digs.
UW-La Crosse 3, MLC 1
La Crosse won he first set decisively 25-11, but MLC bounced back with a strong performance in the second set to even it up with a 25-21 win. The Knights were down by as much as five points before getting the final three. The Eagles then won the third set 25-17 and 25-14 with a hitting percentage of .464 in the fourth set.
Freshman
Greta Nolte led the Knights in kills (13) and aces (2), while Walz led in assists with 17. Walz recorded eight digs as Kieselhorst paced MLC in that category with 14. Freshman
Kourtney Zech added 12 assists for MLC.
MLC will be back on the court next Saturday, September 20, for the MLC Triangular. That day, the Knights will host Saint Mary's (12 p.m.) and Luther College (4 p.m.) for a home opening doubleheader.
