New Ulm, MN - MLC volleyball played Bethany for the first time this season for a home conference match on Tuesday evening. The Knights battled, especially in the third set, but the Vikings' balanced rotation proved to be too much for MLC, beating them
3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-19).
Bethany set the tone with some strong kills in the opening set and never trailed in it to record the double-digit victory. The Vikings then played an impressive second set and put together a hitting percentage of .464 on 15 kills and two errors.
In the final set, MLC presented some difficulty for Bethany's attack and forced them into 10 errors on 34 total attempts. The Vikings gained a huge edge in kills 38-16 and had six service aces. Setter Abby Distad was vital in the Vikings' success, recording 30 of her team's 32 assists. Meanwhile, Riley Sammon made an impact at the front of the net, finishing with five of Bethany's six blocks.
Lydia Feidt had a team-high in kills (6), digs (5, along with
Anna Kieselhorst), and blocks (2) as
Kourtney Zech led the Knights in assists (7). Zech also had MLC's lone service ace of the night.
MLC (1-12, 0-1) will continue its home stand with a Friday night match against Crown College at 7 p.m.
