New Ulm, MN - The MLC women's basketball team shot lights out in its
80-71 victory over Northwestern at home Saturday afternoon.
With the win, MLC completes the season sweep of the Eagles after blowing out Northwestern 71-47 on January 14 at their place. In that game, MLC shot a season high 46 percent from the field, and the Knights had another great day shooting the ball in today's win (44.8 percent).
MLC shot at a very high clip (53.4 percent) through the first three quarters and 66 percent in the second quarter. The Knights also went 13-of-17 (76.5 percent) from the charity stripe.
With the Knights up 46-34 at half, Northwestern went on an 18-6 run to cut it to 57-52 at 3:50 in the third quarter. Despite the rally from the Eagles,
Wilhelmina Wenz knocked down two big 3-pointers at the end of the third to give the Knights a 68-55 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Northwestern made one final push and got within one point (71-70) with three minutes remaining when the Eagles put together a 15-3 run. However, MLC had the last say and didn't allow them to take the lead, and held the Eagles to just one point the rest of the way. MLC finished the game on a 9-1 run and received another double-double performance from Wenz, who once again had a monster day on the glass, corralling 17 rebounds to go with a game-high 21 points and two steals.

Anna Kieselhorst (11 points) and
Lydia Feidt (10 points).
