Auburndale, FL - MLC split its doubleheader on Friday versus Alfred University (NY) with a
4-3 loss and
16-8 victory.
Game 1 Alfred 4, MLC 3
The Saxons scored the first run of game one in the third inning, but the Knights answered back with a run in the fourth and fifth frames to grab a 2-1 advantage. Alfred came back tho and tied it 2-2 in the top of the sixth and eventually took the lead 4-2 following the top of the seventh.
Mark Vogel would hit a sac fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Knights some life still, but the Saxons threw out an MLC baserunner attempting to tag up at second base.
Ethan Melso and
Carlos Walta threw the seven innings, and the duo combined for six strikeouts.
Jackson Anderson and
John Westendorf were the other two MLC hitters to finish with an RBI.
Game 2 MLC 16, Alfred 8
MLC stormed back in game two for a positive outcome as the bats came alive to score 16 runs on 13 base hits. With the Knights down 5-3 in the bottom of the third, MLC totaled three runs in the fourth and broke the game open with five runs in both of the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth,
Aidan Berg and
Michel Krebs belted two-run homers and in the seventh, Walta hit a triple to score
Parker Winghart from first base.
Krebs paced the Knights in hits (3) and RBI (4), while Anderson had a team-high four runs scored.
Micah Herbst had three runs, and the MLC defense played flawlessly, committing no errors.
