New Ulm, MN - MLC baseball took on Crown College this past weekend for its home opening series of the 2026 season. On Saturday, Crown won both games of the doubleheader decisively,
19-4 and
15-6. In game three, the Knights played winning baseball and were poised to defeat the Polars, but Crown scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to come back and beat MLC
11-10.
Game 1 Crown 19, MLC 4
In the two contests on Saturday, MLC scored first.
Micah Herbst tripled to left center field to bring in three runs in the bottom of the first frame. However, the Polars scored four in the second inning and exploded for 12 runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Crown received a big performance from Bryan Gerbers (5 RBI).
Game 2 Crown 15, MLC 6
MLC opened game two with a bang, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first. The Knights capitalized on two errors by the Polars. Despite the strong start, the Knights put up 15 unanswered runs to take game two.
William Salgat led MLC with three hits, while
Mark Vogel recorded two at the plate.
Game 3 Crown 11, MLC 10
Despite the tough loss in game three, MLC showed a lot of positive play from its lineup and its starting pitcher,
Aidan Berg. The Knights' lineup produced 14 hits, with
Jackson Anderson having a monster game, going 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored.
Parker Winghart also went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, and a pair of runs scored. Freshman
Michel Krebs picked up three base hits, an RBI, and two runs scored.
Berg went 7.1 innings, allowing five runs (2 earned) and striking out nine batters to extend his UMAC lead in strikeouts.
MLC will look to shake it off with a doubleheader at Maranatha Baptist on Thursday, April 2, starting at 3:30 p.m.
