Softball swept in home opening series against Morris

New Ulm, MN - The MLC softball team was swept in its home opening series, that got moved up to Thursday and Friday due to the weather this weekend. Minnesota Morris took both games of the doubleheader on Thursday, 13-0 (Game 1) and 11-5 (Game 2), and the Cougars defeated MLC 12-2 on Friday morning.

Game 1 Minnesota Morris 13, MLC 0

In what was a sunny and warm day at the MLC softball diamond, Minnesota Morris scored one run in the top of the first. MLC had an opportunity to tie it up early in the bottom half of the inning when Kaylee Pickering doubled to right-center field with two outs. However, the Knights were unable to score nd the Cougars capitalized in the second frame, putting up seven runs in the inning on seven base hits.

From there, Morris controlled game one and added on more runs in the third and fifth innings. The Cougars had four players finish with multi-RBI games and outhit the Knights 16-4.

Game 2 Minnesota Morris 11, MLC 5

In the second contest of the day, things were going in a positive direction for MLC as they took a 3-1 advantage with a pair of runs in the third inning. Pickering doubled to right field, and Chloe Berg singled up the middle to bring in the Knights' runs.

MLC added one more run in the bottom of the fifth when Katelyn Rassat hit an RBI single to score Kieghtan Rank. With the score 4-1, Morris answered with a run in the top of the fifth to make it 4-2. However, the Cougars would flip the game in the following inning as they scored four runs. The Cougars didn't stop there and added five more runs in the seventh inning to secure the comeback victory over MLC.

Despite the loss, Pickering led the Knights in RBI (2) and hits (2) along with Berg and Rassat. Kiara Humann led MLC in runs (2) at the leadoff spot and had a busy day at shortstop, recording five assists and two outouts in the field.

Game 3 Minnesota Morris 12, MLC 2

Game three on Friday featured a stark contrast in weather as temperatures dipped 40 degrees cooler and there was rain. Morris scored three runs consistently in all of the first four innings of play and outhit the Knights 15-3.

Pickering recorded the only RBI for the Knights, while Humann scored both runs for MLC.

MLC will host Bethany on Tuesday, April 21, for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
