New Ulm, MN - The MLC softball team took on Northwestern this weekend and honored the parents and seniors on the squad.
Northwestern outscored MLC 26-1 with a
9-0 win on Friday and a
9-1 (Game 2) and
8-0 (Game 3) on Saturday.
Game 1 UNW 9, MLC 0
The Eagles totaled 21 hits in the first game and belted three home runs in doing so. Northwestern earned a complete game shutout performance from Ireland Strubbe, who struck out 10.
For MLC,
Chloe Berg picked up two of the Knights' three base hits, including a double.
Game 2 UNW 9, MLC 1
In game two, Northwestern scored four runs in the first frame to take an early 4-0 lead. MLC scored its lone run in the bottom of the second on a
Rachel McCaughna RBI groundout, scoring Berg. From there, the Eagles scored two runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
Despite the loss, Rank was in the circle again for the Knights and struck out four Northwestern batters.
Kiara Humann led MLC in the field with three assists at shortstop.
Game 3 UNW 8, MLC 0
In the final match up, MLC recorded a team high in hits (7) for the weekend series. The top of the lineup produced two hits in the No. 2
(Chloe Koschnitzke) and No. 3 (
Kaylee Pickering) spots in the lineup.
Northwestern used two doubles and a triple to help them get ahead 5-0 after scoring two in the first and three runs in the top of the second. The Eagles' relief pitcher came in and tossed six strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Berg led MLC with six putouts at first base.
MLC softball will play its final home contest of the season in a single game against Bethany Lutheran on Tuesday, April 28, at 5 p.m.
