Dave Biedenbender is entering his 2nd year as athletic director at Martin Luther College. He was asked to serve as athletic director just before the 2022-2023 school year after long-time MLC athletic director Jim Unke passed away suddenly in July of 2022. Dave had served at MLC the previous 5 years as an admissions counselor, assistant women’s basketball coach, and assistant baseball coach.
Taking on the athletic director position at MLC is a return to Dave’s roots, since he is a 1988 graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College. While at DMLC, Dave played football, basketball, and baseball. Dave also earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership: Sport Management from Winona State University in 2018.
Prior to coming back to MLC, Dave taught and coached in the WELS at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Brownsville, WI, Manitowoc Lutheran High School in Manitowoc, WI, Mt. Olive Lutheran School in Overland Park, KS, Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School in New Ulm, MN, and Sienna Lutheran Academy in Missouri City, TX.
His longest stint was his time at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School from 2000-2015. While at MVL, Dave coached the varsity girls basketball team to a 316-99 record with 8 conference championships and 3 trips to the state tournament. He accrued 4 conference coach of the year and 4 section coach of the year awards during his years at MVL.
Dave was born in Milwaukee, WI, and was raised in Menomonee Falls, WI, a suburb of Milwaukee. He attended Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School and played soccer, basketball, and baseball during his high school years. He is married to Cathy and has four daughters, two sons-in-law, and three grandchildren.
