ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College volleyball team lost 3-1 on Friday at St. Catherine by the scores of 25-18, 25-16, 31-33, and 25-19.
The Knights had a very sluggish start, falling behind early in each of the first two sets as SCU took a 2-0 lead in the match.
MLC picked it up in the third set, hitting .157 after struggling to a negative attack percentage in each of the first two sets. The Knights held a lead for much of the set, and held off the Wildcats down the stretch to win 33-31 and force a fourth set.
MLC was unbale to capitalize on that momentum, however, as SCU once again took an early lead in the fourth set. The Knights battled back to make the score 20-15 later in the set, but weren't able to come any closer the rest of the way as the Wildcats closed the match.
Kira Grev finished with 15 kills to lead all players, and also led all players in the match with 62 total attacks.Â
Emily Neeb and
Megan Lemke led MLC with 20 and 17 digs, respectively, while
Rylee Weisensel finished with a team-high four blocks.
The Knights fell to 1-14 on the season in defeat, while SCU improved to 9-5 with the win.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, September 26) when it travels to UW-Superior for the first UMAC match of the season. That match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
