COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team lost 58-40 to Saint Benedict on day one of the Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament hosted by the Blazers.
Both teams struggled on the offensive end, as the Knights held the Blazers to 33.3 percent shooting, while MLC shot 28.3 percent overall and 14.3 percent (2-14) from beyond the three-point arc. The Knights also struggled from the foul line, making just eight of 21 attempts from the charity stripe.
CSB led by two (16-14) after the first period, and nine (33-24) at the half, but the Knights continued to struggle more and more on the offensive end as the game progressed. After shooting 32.3 percent in the first half, MLC shot 22.7 percent in the final two quarters, allowing the Blazers to build on the lead despite scoring only 25 points after halftime.
Mariah Schoof led MLC with 12 points and two blocks.
Jade St. Germaine scored nine points and also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, while
Grace Schultz added eight points and dished out a pair of assists.
MLC fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss, while CSB improved its record to 2-0 with the win.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Sunday, November 20) for day two of the tournament at CSB. MLC will play Saint Mary's in a game scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m.
