NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team lost to Minnesota Morris 3-1 on Tuesday in a match of two top four teams in the UMAC.
The Cougars took the first, second and fourth sets on the way to the win by the scores of 26-24, 25-7, 23-25 and 25-14.
The Knights held a 22-19 lead late in the first set, but were unable to hold off the charging Cougars, who blitzed the Knights in the second set to put MLC in a 2-0 hole.
The Knights put forth one of their best efforts of the season in the third set, recording an attack efficiency of .519 thanks to 16 kills and only two errors in 27 attacks.Â
That would be all they could muster, however, as the Cougars once again built an early lead in the fourth set on the way to closing out the match.
Jade St. Germaine led MLC with 10 kills, while
Kira Grev and
Grace Schultz added nine and seven kills, respectively. Grev also finished with five blocks and nine digs, helping her pass the 1,000 digs milestone for her career.Â
Rylee Weisensel led the Knights with six blocks, while
Taylor Weber finished with a team-best 13 digs.
The Knights fell to 13-14 overall and 8-5 in UMAC play in defeat. UMM improved to 23-6 on the season and 12-2 in league play with the win.
MLC will return to action tomorrow (Wednesday, October 18) when it travels to Buena Vista for a non-conference match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
