DULUTH, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team swept its UMAC triangular at St. Scholastica with a 3-1 win over CSS and a 3-0 sweep of Crown College on Saturday.
MLC 3, CSS 1
The Knights opened the triangular with a 3-1 win over St. Scholastica by the scores of 25-17, 26-24, 25-22 and 25-18.
The Saints took the first set, but MLC battled to win a back-and-forth second game to even the match at 1-1.
MLC built a big early lead in the third and held off a late Saints' rally to take a 2-1 lead in the match, and then closed the match with a strong final set to earn the 3-1 win.
The Knights hit .162 on the attack for the match, with
Kira Grev leading the way with 12 kills and hitting .194.
Jade St. Germaine added 11 kills, while
Moriah Hackbarth and
Rylee Weisensel added nine and eight kills, respectively. Grev also finished with a team-best 20 digs and three blocks, while
Hailey Stade led the team with 22 assists.
MLC 3, Crown 0
MLC finished the Saturday sweep with a 3-0 win over Crown by the scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 27-25.
The Knights hit .219 on the attack to help hold off the Storm late in each game to earn the win.
Grev once again led the way with 12 kills to go with 11 digs and a team-high three blocks. St. Germaine and
Grace Schultz added eight and six kills, respectively. Stade led the team with 16 assists.
The Knights improved to 7-5 on the season and 2-0 in UMACÂ play with the sweep.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, September 19, for another UMAC triangular at Minnesota Morris. The Knights will play Bethany Lutheran at 5 p.m. before taking on the host Cougars at 7 p.m.
