Knights Push Shutout Streak to Five with 2-0 Win

Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team shut out its fifth straight opponent with a 2-0 win at UW-Superior on Saturday.

The game was scheduled to start at 7:15 p.m., but was pushed back more than an hour due to weather delays. The Knights showed no signs of rust from the delay, however, as they controlled play throughout.

MLC put its first goal on the board in the 38th minute when Lydia Bitter cashed in a penalty kick to give the Knights a 1-0 lead heading into the half. The goal was Bitter's sixth of the season.

Mary Falck pushed the lead to 2-0 early in the second half with her second goal of the season in the 51st minute to put the game in the hands of the Knights' strong defense.

That defense was up to the task, as it has been throughout the early season, holding the Yellowjackets to eight total shots and only five shots on goal. Goalkeeper Erin Feddersen stopped all five shots.

The Knights have now gone five full games without allowing a goal, and have not allowed a goal in more than 500 minutes of game time dating back to their game on September 9 against Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Knights improved to 4-1-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in UMAC play with the win. UWS fell to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play in defeat.

MLC will return to action on Wednesday, September 21, when it travels to Hamline for a game scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
