Turnovers Costly in Loss to Hamline

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team was unable to overcome the pressue defense of Hamline University in a 73-40 loss on Wednesday.

The Pipers forced 34 MLC turnovers in the game that led to 32 Hamline points, while the Knights were also held to 29.1 percent shooting for the game.

The two teams battled back-and-forth defensively for much of the first half until the Pipers finished the second quarter with a 12-0 run in the final minutes to take a 32-15 halftime lead.

The Pipers continued to turn up the pressure in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights 21-5 in the period as they continued to build up their lead on the way to the win.

Faith Otte led MLC with nine points in the game. Emily Witkowski and Sydney Cody each added six points, while Ruth Buchholz led the team with seven rebounds.

MLC fell to 0-6 on the season in defeat. The Pipers improved to 4-2 with the win.

The Knights will return to action for one final non-conference tune up at UW-Stout on Monday, December 3. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
