DULUTH, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team opened the second half of the conference season with a 3-0 loss at St. Scholastica by the scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-16.
The Saints held off a late MLC rally to win the first set, and then won five of the final six points of the second game to take a 2-0 lead in the match. In the third set, CSS hit .375 on the attack on the way to securing the win.
Jewel St. Germaine stuffed the stat sheet for MLC with 19 assists, seven kills, one block and four digs.
On the attack,
Kelsey Birschbach led the way with nine kills, while
Kati Aguilar and
Ruth Buchholz added eight and five kills, respectively. Birschbach also led the team with 12 digs, while Buchholz recorded a team-high three blocks.
MLC fell to 4-15 on the season and 4-5 in UMAC play in defeat. CSS improved to 7-10 overall and 5-4 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, October 2, when they host North Central. The match will serve as MLC's "Dig Pink" contest this season, and is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
