NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team was unable to overcome a bad start offensively in a 65-33 loss to Coe College on Saturday.
The Knights held the Kohawks to 36.7 percent shooting from the field in the first half, but scored just six points on the offensive end on the way to a 32-6 halftime deficit.
MLC shot much better from the field in the second half (35.7 percent), but was unable to overcome the early deficit as Coe cruised to the win.
The Kowhawks shot 35.0 percent for the field for the game, but was able to outscore the Knights 21-9 from beyond the three-point arc. They also forced 31 MLC turnovers, leading to 29 points on the other end.
Emily Witkowski led the Knights with 10 points, followed by
Samantha Paul with eight points.
Kati Aguilar added seven rebounds, while
Faith Otte led the Knights with four assists.
MLC fell to 1-12 on the season in defeat. Coe improved to 8-5 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, January 9, when they travel to Minnesota Morris for a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
