Men Fall at the Buzzer at Holy Family

MANITOWOC, Wis. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team suffered a tough 61-59 loss on a buzzer beater at Holy Family College on Friday.

The Knights raced to a strong start, but 11 MLC first-half turnovers allowed the Lakers to trail by only one (32-31) heading into the half.

MLC pushed its lead to six points early in the second half, but the Lakers took a 52-51 lead with just over five minutes to play and never trailed again in the game.

Trailing by two in the final minute, Jack Heichelbech scored with 14 seconds to play to tie the game 59-59, but Holy Family's Byron Dean Jr. scored on a jumper from just inside the paint as time expired to give the Lakers the win.

MLC shot 34.8 percent for the game and struggled from the outside, making just four of 22 attempts from beyond the three-point arc (including 0-14 in the second half).

Joseph Hirsch led the Knights with 18 points. Jared Witkowiak added 12 points, while Ethan Eisenmann led the team with nine rebounds.

MLC fell to 1-1 on the season in defeat. The Lakers improved to 3-7 with the win.

The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, November 26, when they travel to Carroll for a game scheduled to tip off at 4 p.m.
